50 hour weeks

So the past couple weeks I’ve been working around 50 hours, I’ve done this before, around 40 hours nursing and the rest topped up at asda, in fact at one point I was closer to 70 hours.

The difference with this is the mental stregnth it takes to learn about new illness’ I’ve not encountered before and being able to respond to them in a short period. To do this when I’ve had around 36 hours to go from days to nights then 36 hours to go back to days, to then be responsible for the care of 4 different people and to know what follow up they need and how much of it.

To remember to help the other 14 people on the ward as well, not including the staff that are asking for your opinion on matters.

I have a great team to work with, and I’m learning so much because I have this team to work with. But this job is hard. I just can’t believe I’m doing an extra 5 shifts next week.. I’m contracted to 3.. So I’m doing 8 shifts in 5 days… It’s money in the bank.. But I’m glad I’ve got a week off at the end of Feb, and I’m having that week off or I’ll turn into a tomato.
